What You Will Do:

 

The Simulation Technician will assist the Director of Simulation and Interprofessional Education in the smooth operation of the Simulation Center on a daily basis. The Simulation Technician is an individual who specializes in both the technologies and methods used in the planning, preparation, and execution of simulation-based healthcare training and education events. The technologies include the use of computer, audio-visual and manikins as well as creating and applying moulage for realism in simulation scenarios. The Simulation Technician will apply best practices, as directed, to increase the fidelity of simulation activities, match appropriate technology to the learning objectives, and enrich learner experiences with moulage. This position may require some evening or Saturday shifts.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the Simulation Center department needs through technical support as necessary.
  • Collaborating with IT and vendor contacts to quickly resolve technical issues.
  • Working with human patient simulators with full physiologic functioning (including all body systems, birth, and death) and assisting with the operation of proprietary software used to run the simulation manikins in both the set up and running of the simulations.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Simulation and Interprofessional Education, providing input and advice on, operation, maintenance, training, reliability, and overall equipment performance
  • Provide creative input when adding to the realism of patient simulator appearance such as applying moulage to simulate things such as injuries, wounds, and bruising.
  • Set- up and breakdown of necessary patient simulators, task trainers, hospital equipment supplies and audio-visual equipment as needed for lab or simulation.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of simulators, and all equipment used in the lab and simulation rooms as instructed by the Director and according to warranty guidelines.
  • Laundry maintenance utilizing on site washers and dryers to provide clean linens for all simulation center beds.
  • Maintaining records of warranty information, purchase and expiration dates, serial numbers, and maintenance records for Simulation Center equipment.
  • Inventory management.
  • Assisting Director of Simulation and Interprofessional Education with faculty education and training as directed.
  • Recording of all simulation exercises and making the audio-visual files available to faculty for educational use.
  • Safeguarding electronic data and programming by protecting simulation technology from data loss.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in a technology related field such as Nursing, Computer Science, Digital media, Management Information Technology, Medical Technology, or Life Sciences.
  • Experience with a variety of technologies including computer-based scenarios, audio-visual and manikin technologies.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology.
  • Proficiency in computer operations and utilization of audio/visual equipment.
  • Knowledge and competent use of WORD, Excel and other online applications.
  • Proficiency in demonstrating technical and assessment skills and related scientific rationale
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently toward task completion
  • Ability to think critically, troubleshoot and take action to resolve issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people
  • Attention to detail and follow through

Preferred:

  • BSN degree
  • Simulation/lab experience

Physical Demands:  

  • This position requires standing and bending frequently throughout the day, lifting up to 50 lbs.

The salary range of the grade for this position is $21.25 to $29.74 per hour (typical workweek is 37.5 hours).  Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.  Offers are based on multiple factors permitted by law, including but not limited to: budgetary considerations, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, market considerations, tenure and standing with the university (applicable to current employees), and internal equity.
